LIFE IS DREAM

“In the end of the 1960s, Vanesa’s parents fled the Franco-regime’s deep poverty to pursue their dream in The Netherlands. Working their blue-collar jobs, for over 45 years, their purpose was to return to Spain wealthy. There, in a house full of Dutch porcelain and shiny gold, they can now finally rest. Vanesa grew up and lives in the Netherlands, but is still feeling trapped in their dream. Torn between two homes, she re-examines her past. What kind of life did her family truly live? Did she have the freedom to shape her own life?”

In Life Is Dream I dissect my family's immigrant-dream with the poetry of my camera. While the boundaries between dream and reality slowly dissolve, the film develops into an intimate story of self-discovery in which I question the values of family ties.
